‘This is the first of what is planned to be an annual Heritage Collections calendar, and the images we’ve chosen for each month aren’t just beautiful in and of themselves, they also tell the story of our community, from Upper Hutt’s earliest days as a pioneer settlement, through its decades as a picturesque recreational hinterland for the capital, to its post-war flourishing as a major suburban industrial centre, and beyond. Given the vast range of photographs in our archives it was always going to be impossible to comprehensively survey every aspect of Upper Hutt’s past over a mere twelve months.
